Toys for Cat When I Am Not Home?

When I say toys, I mean anything.

She's 9-10 years old, tabby, no major problems.

Just won some plague buildup removing from his teeth, she had hair problems (pretty sure stress induced), but she seems really great.

The main thing is she gets bored/lonely when I am not home. I have gotten her toys before, I know she likes catnip, does not like catnip balls, likes fluffy mouse toys (with and without catnip).

Catnip seems to be a common theme with toys, I am looking for any and all suggestions. Probably going to try a pet store b/c the selection at Publix/Walmart is nonexistent.

Not sure how much you can tell from the way a cat acts, but she loves people, and generally dislikes other animals though she has got along with animals in the past (the less the better).

I just moved into a new house, there are no other animals, and I doubt there will be any added. I keep her in my room (which is quite large compared to prior rooms) and I let her run around the house (which is the biggest she has ever been in), but I don't let her go anywhere she wants, and I don't let her into other peoples rooms or bathrooms.

Final note: She is not declawed, I'd like to get a scratch post, but don't believe in spending $75-200 for a 4x0.5 cylindrical carpet. That and I don't know if she will even use it.

composer! you NAILED IT ! LOL....

my cat is leash trained. been that way since she was a kitten....and she can "choose" any toy she wishes for her area.

    i keep her:

    litter box

    food / water

and a couple of toys very close and in "her area"

but NOTHING that i don't want damaged or clawed at..(altho we had her declawed yrs ago (she's 14 now)

when i get up, or get home, i unleash her....she's happy. she comes when i call her, and sleeps on my lap or on m chest when im taking a nap...GL

There's a newer product on the market fairly recently. It's a scratcher for cats that's sort of a humped piece of cardboard on a stand, it's just about $12.00 and the scratching surface can be replaced. I got mine (or my cat's) at WalMart, so you might look there. I always felt the same way about those carpeted poles!

I think whatever toys she'll play with are the ones you should get! But don't spend too much on them ... sometimes they don't get much use.

A toy for when you're not home?

Just leave lots of important paper work on top of your desk, perhaps an extremely important project you've been working on, and make sure that your cat sees it.

When you return home, you will see that your cat had a lot of fun playing on top of your desk. :)
