    this came in sahih muslim.. and a few other compilation.

    when prophet saw was asked about his fasting on mondays.. he said: ذاك يوم ولدت فيه...

    "This is a day I was born in"

    and later added... that this day [monday] was also the day he was revealed to..

    ____

    oh ok... well here is the eng. ref for the hadith in Muslim:

    Abu Qatada Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: it is (the day) when i was born. (Book #006, Hadith #2606)

    make sure you point out to whomever you are having this discussion with is that he did NOT celebrate his birthday yearly as people do now... he fasted EVERY Monday... he didn't fast on the DATE he was born but the DAY. & his fasts were an act of worship not a celebration.

    ONLY TWO EIDS

    =============

    when prophet may allah's peace and blessings be upon him came to Medina people there used to celebrate on some days.and when they were asked by the beloved prophet may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him they said " we used to do this from the period of jahiliya."then prophet (pbuh) said "we have only two eids one is eid ul fitr and eid ul adha"

    SO CELEBRATING ANY OTHER DAY WHETHER PROPHET'S BIRTHDAY,VALENTINE'S DAY ETC ETC IS also HARAM.

    YOU MAY BE CELEBRATING HIS (PBUH) DEATH DAY

    =========================================

    many scholars agree that he was born on 9 rabi ul awal and died on 12 ..so people may be celebrating his death.may allah forgive us all.

    IF YOU REALLY WANT TO CELEBRATE:

    =================================

    when he pbuh was asked about fasting on mondays he said "i was born on this day and quran was revealed on me this day"SO IF PEOPLE REALLY WANT TO CELEBRATE WHY DON'T THEY JUST FAST ON THAT DAY.....

    SECONDLY his pbuh fasts were not for celebration instead and act of worship.

    THIRDLY QUOTING THIS HADITH FOR PROVING THE CELEBRATIONS an act of love for him pbuh WE COMMIT AN ACT OF BLASPHEMY LIKE HE PBUH WAS CELEBRATING HIS PBUH BIRTHDAY AND SAID DONOT IMMITATE NON MUSLIMS . may allah forgive us all.

    ARE WE CLAIMING THAT WE LOVED HIM PBUH MORE THEN ABU BAKAR may allah be pleased with him and other companions as they never did it.

    and its a doubtful act........so here is a beautiful hadith to act upon

    "That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honour, but he who falls into doubtful matters [eventually] falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein.Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allaah's sanctuary is His prohibitions"
