How big in MB is 1 minute of .flv?
I have really limited space on my computer; just wondering how often I would have to upload my videos if I switched formats.

depends on the quality uf you have the file and want to check, if you have windows, right click on it and pick properties, then look at the size in the size area

It depends on the bitrate. If the .flv was 600kb/s, that would mean it is 36 mb per minute uncompressed.
