Student work more than 20 hours per week in UK? ?

I was recently told at work that as a student I can't be given more than 20 hours per week. I was slightly annoyed with this cus, hey who are you to tell me how much I can work? I tried googling it but everything just related to foreign students studying here in the UK. I was born and live the UK but couldn't find anything really helpful, so I ask, can I really only do 20 hours per week? I'd really like to do more!

If you are over 16 and do not have Visa restrictions you can work as many hours as you like!

Many UK born students work far more hours than 20, as some only have lectures early morning leaving the rest of the day and evening!

I think the myth comes from the fact that students do not usually work more hours because of study and lecture timings!

You could 12 hour shifts on a Saturday and Sunday without it ever impacting on your weekday study!

You could try HMRC if you wanted an actual text to read out to whoever this person is!

The reason why you can't find anything is probably because there are no restrictions LOL

Oh and have you asked your employer for more hours? Is it them saying you cannot work more than 20 hours?? If it is, they are confusing that with Visa Restrictions!

You could call ACAS - the free employment rights line and ask them or try  HMRC directly!

there's no limit about the hours you can work as a student that I am aware of
my son worked 28 hours a week as a student
maybe ask them to explain their reasons, because sometimes it's to do with
hours being restricted so that it doesn't affect your studies,and its more to do with your well being
