What is the difference between express mail, priority mail, first class, etc.?

I am trying to send a couple of packages-- some inside the US and some to Japan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. I'm in no rush to send it; as long as it gets to its destination safely I'm ok. I am not sure of the differences between the types of mail services and which one would be best. Also, if I go to the post office, which one would they recommend me?

Express should only be used if the item has to be delivered overnight. It is the most expensive way to ship, but it is also guaranteed or money back.

First Class and Priority are the same if item is over 13 ounces. Depending on the size of the package it may be beneficial to ship with USPS "flat rate" boxes. There are three different sizes and rates. You should check them out at your Local Post Office.

USPS Priority is delivered in 2 to 3 days, but no guarantees.

If time is no issue, you can save money by shipping "Parcel Post." Delivery is 5 to 10 days depending on distance.

All above info is for domestic mail inside the US.

For International, delivery to a foreign country is usually complete in 5 to 7 days. Once it is received in that country, the USPS no longer has control of delivery time. Japan and Hong Kong are pretty good as for delivery times, Philippines is sometimes an issue.

Get the post office to explain them to you.
