South Island Road Condition now?

I will be flying to Christchurch this friday and touching down at Friday night time.

Then i will start my journey from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo - Akaroa-Kaikora-Picton-Nelson-Hamner springs and back to Christchurch again.

I have everything planned.. including hotel, car rental and etc. but not weather. I understand that New Zealand is going through a snow storm now and i have been monitoring the weather forecast closely lately. The weather forecasted to be clear from end of this week till next week.

I will start my journey from this weekend. I would like to know what would i be expecting for the road condition? Will there be a lot of road closure? or icy road? or etc?

What should i be prepared for the journey, or i should postpone my trip for this instance?

Appreciate your advice.. thanks.

The NZTA (New Zealand Transport Agency) have the most up to date information on road conditions.

It's only a forecast, i wouldn't rely in it too much, things can change and so can the weather as i've noticed from the start i've been watching the forecast and seeing if they were accurate and at times they weren't. Yes, there've been loads of road closures and warnings etc and you gotta drive carefully and slowly and apply the 4 second rule at all times. You don't need to postpone, if you do, you'll miss out all the fun in the snow!

at the moment there are a lot of closed roads so be prepared to be flexible. Also if you are doing the route in this order, it is quite illogical and there is a lot of driving, so think about changing if necessary.

that said, the weather is forecast to improve.

as you are from Singapore you won't know about icy roads; don't start driving before 10am, stop at 4pm and take it very gently, leaving lots of space between you and the vehicle in front.

My flatties just drove from Queenstown to Chch so the roads are open at the moment. Most of the snow has been groomed off the roads by now.
