Auditory Hallucinations: Is it a serious concern to hear familiar background noises?

Right now, I can hear the TV in the kitchen still being on and at a loud volume. It's not that I can fully, definitely hear it, but it's more of a drowned out sound, yet still audible to me. This has happened a few times before, and I'm starting to wonder if it should be any serious concern, especially if it develops into a more severe issue.

I usually hear these hallucinations (if it should be considered one) during the quiet time at night, but I can hear sound from other parts of the house as if it's during the busy time of the day. There's nothing new in the sound, just generic background noise that I know through intuition is not real.

Reason why this has come to my attention is a recent incident involving my brother that had him admitted to the mental health part of the hospital for the weekend. Several of my relatives also have some sort of minor mental illness. So it would be reasonable to think I'm also susceptible to some sort of mental illness too.

Please, go and see a doctor. You can never be certain with the opinions of others.

It is better to get a diagnosis where early discovery can have better odds with treatment,

rather than risk things into developing further. (If there is in fact something wrong.)

Auditory Hallucinations can be symptoms to several disorders. (Not all Mental)

Mental disorders do tend to be hereditary.

What other symptoms do you have? here are links to one of the disorders (Mental) which do have Auditory Hallucinations as one of their symptoms.

But, again. Please, go and see a doctor. I pray all is well. Good Luck! ;)

I don't think that's anything to worry about. We live in a noisy world, so when it's more quiet, your brain will sometimes fill in the noise that it thinks should be there. You could see a psychologist if you wanted to, but I wouldn't consider what you hear to be abnormal.
