Ideal subs for my brz1700?

I have the new (I guess old now) line of brutus at 1700 watts. Had the pioneer 3002d4 (2) wired up at one ohm. Now I know these subs rate 1000 watts rms but I figured since they were 3500 watts max a piece they would be fine. Boy was I wrong. I even blew the second second running 1200 watts at 2 ohms alone. So now I would like suggestions with what's next? I need to find my ideal subs that'll run well with this amp. I want to stay at 1 ohm 1700 but I refuse to do less than 2 ohms 1200 for it'll just be a waist of an amp. Also my trunk space is limited so I would only run 1 15 ported or 2 12's sealed (also which of these do you think is best) Money is no object, but just know I'm not looking to enter a competition. Thanks for the help, and keep setting off the alarms! #disturbingthepeacemyass

Sounds like you are clipping ( distorting ) the amplifier to the point of destroying your subs. Before you buy new subwoofers you need to better understand how to set your amplifier. First, bass boost is evil. Turn it all the way down and leave it there. Second, the gain is not a volume control. If you just crank it to the max you will end up blowing your new subs too.

If you do not have a dmm then this is how I suggest that you do it.

The pioneer may have a 3500 watt max , but its the RMS that really matters... Honestly, I am going to purchase the same amplifier, for my twin JL audio w6's. So let's think, if you have 1700rms x 1ohm stable, if you get two subwoofers, they will be getting 850 RMS a piece, in my opinion, you could always get two jl audio w6's and wire the amp to 2 ohms for a crisp, clean sound, and a LOUD bump. Or, you could get two kicker 12 CVX's which are 750 rms a piece, they would use 1500 rms from the amp, and if the amp is tuned correctly, maybe turned down slightly, these subs should be fine!

Personally, go with 2 jl audio w6's and wire the amp down to 2 ohms, you won't regret it!

Without knowing your budget I could throw out a few name like; Digital Designs, Sundown or Ground Zero for subwoofer brands to think about. Give Dave at matrix-audio.co.uk a call, he'll point you in the right direction.

I'm assuming this is your amp?

    http://www.hifonics.com/Hifonics_Brutus_BRZ_Amps.h... - BRZ1700.1D 1 x 600W @ 4 OHMS, 1 x 1200W @ 2 OHMS, 1 x 1700W @ 1 OHM

I guess you would need to find out what your amp is truly running at (if you haven't done so already).

The Pioneeer's are good subs, so i'm, however the enclosure does play a part a big part in your system. You say that you don't want to enter any competitions, so your not looking for an SPL box.

I still say that PWK is one of the best car audio 'engineers' that i know of, and he can design you something that will perform at it's best given your system set up.

I think money is an object without knowing your spending limit cause there are so many answers to answer this question!! An you don't have to feel like you're limited to just using the space in your trunk
