Could Anonymous(group) be comparable to any past historical movements?
For example, Global Justice Movement, Civil Rights Movement, Labor Movement, etc.

It's difficult to comprehend on what's Anonymous real true objective, however, they will hack anyone that's causing the group hassle. Such as the Playstation Network that happened quite awhile ago now. It isn't really a movement but they will try stop anyone that will irritated them about something in common ground. However, they are individualist. Some will say that their 'goal' is to right wrongs via the ways of the internet. In my opinion Anonymous has done some good but their fame, or infamy, has attracted a lot of people who do minor hacking or DDoS attacks under the name "anonymous."

hard to compare because as another user states, they have no real structure or common goal except when enough people get involved in a cause or action to be noticed..
I suppose there's other movements that were as fluid and as varied, but I can't think of any right now..

I would compare them to a branch of the CIA, like Al Qaeda.
With a group such as Anonymous, the government can now claim that such and such patriots are responsible for this, or this group is responsible for that, all while using them to promote their own real agenda.

A group of people who barely know each other who have no defined purpose and seem to be formed of a random morass of bored people who think way to highly of themselves and have pulled off several annoyances over the course of several years?
I'd say they're most closely in line with anarchists... and have managed about as much political clout as them as well.

No because it isn't a movement and it doesn't have leaders or set goals.

A bunch of cyber nerds writing programs to meddle with Sony? I guess, in a way...but I don't think it holds much significance to a real movement.
