How to start a band, from nothing?

Okay, so I have been singing my entire life, but I don't have much experience past open mic nights and church. I've decided to really commit to making music a bigger part of my life, and I can't do that without the help of people who can actually play instruments (just sitting on stage with a sound system seems pretty lame to me lol) so, what are some ideas as to how to find the best people to be in this hypothetical band. I'm into heavier stuff: slipknot, miw, bmth, etc. But I think my voice is more suited to rock, pop/punk, indie, etc. So basically, I am open to any and as many suggestions as I can get. Any helpful tips of experience would be much appreciated. Thx in advance

It's all in who you know really, I hung around musicians my whole life, so it's kind of weird that you don't have any around you. If you can walk into a church without burning go talk to the people that play there. They might know people or even BE the people.

Go to Sam Ash or Guitar Center and keep an ear out. I've been in a couple of bands by people who have approached me while playing a guitar, bass, drum set, or piano.

It's super cheesy but try craigslist ads, they have a "Musicians Wanted" section. Ask for samples of what they play and see if it fits.

Remember most of all, you can have the worlds best players in your band, but it wont be worth anything if you don't get along. Try to find a crowd of musicians that you can call friends. Then pick your band mates.

If you're into bands like miw and bmth, my guess is you go to a lot of shows. most of the time they have small bands opening for the bigger ones. Befriend them, it'll be easy because female vocalists are super badass. Specially in heavy bands.

If, by any chance you live in S.CA. let me know, I can introduce you to hundreds of people that live music and are in need of a frontman, in this case frontwoman.

Source(s): I've been in TONS of bands playing every front.

Find some kids at school who play drums, guitar and bass. You could also try one of those band websites that help you find musician in your area. There are plenty of people you know that play an instrument and you just have to ask them if they are interested in making a band with you. Good luck! (I like your music taste by the way)

I'd hold auditions on separate days with you and a couple of mate.

Guitarists one day, drummers the next. If your at school or a university, advertise within those communities so you're similar ages and are familiar with each other. Organise where you can practice and find the equipment and go for it! (Make sure you all get along)

Well Sweetie, I believe you should look for people who play instruments. :)

You can't find the best immediately, so just start with people who are alright, and then work your way to better people. :)

Go online, and search any people who play instruments near the area you live. :)

    Good luck! :)
