How do you properly apply battery terminal grease?

Where does it belong for the best result? The new felt terminal disk kits come with a package of grease. What do you do with it? What is it intended to do?

Battery terminal grease is used to reduce corrosion between the battery post and the clamp. Drop your felts over the post first, then apply a LIGHT coating around the post BEFORE you install the battery cable clamp. You can smear the rest around and over the clamp and post, but it attracts dust, so if you drive in a dusty environment, use it sparingly.

If you get the felt washer kit, rub the red grease into the felt rings and smear it all over the battery post & inside of the battery clamp. The red grease is an anti-oxidizer so the key is to cover it so the oxygen can't get at it and cause corrosion.

I'm a firm believer in not putting any gunk on the battery terminals. If you just clean them twice a year with a battery cleaning wire brush that does the posts and cable clamps they are fine.

Just smear the grease over the battery post and terminal.

    That will be enough.
