Shameless UK and US?

I have watched all seasons of the US version of the show and started watching the UK version. Making it through season 1, seems to have the same storyline (give or take a few changes), and I was wondering that if anyone who has seen both versions of the series could shed some light on whether it continues in this fashion or if they start to separate into alternative shows. I like the crew I've grown to love and I wouldn't want to ruin it by watching it first through the UK version. Don't get me wrong, the UK version seems ok, but I am an American (from Chicago at that) and can relate to the US version more and would rather finish the series that way.

I've seen a few clips of the US version, but it didn't pique my interest. We have more than enough of our own TV shows over here already. I have to be honest with you, I am not a fan of US remakes of British TV shows.

The UK version was very good to begin with, but after about 5 or so years I think the series had run out steam. Just like any TV show these days, I can only take so much before becoming bored. They have a habit of doing that kind of thing over here, like flogging a dead horse.

The UK version had quite a lot of British cultural references that Americans might not relate to. In particular the council house estate culture it portrays is uniquely British. Also the local accents and slang used might confuse Americans.

    I have seen both versions.

The story lines start off the same in the first two seasons and most of the main characters are the same, like The Gallagher's. But in about season 2 or 3 the U.S version has it's own story lines and the characters change from the U.K version. Maybe because the producers didn't want it to be to predictable.

IMO I can relate to the U S version more and the U S version is funnier with more graphic content.
