Does someone have a tested and good mayonnaise recipe that's vegan?

I have a friend who has an allergy to eggs, and this is why I'm looking for a tested recipe for mayonnaise, that tastes good. So any personally tested, and used recipes, would be appreciated by her., and as a result, myself on her behalf.

Update:

I'll give a day or so, on this question, before I award a best answer. But one WILL BE selected.

Update 2:

I want to thank everyone for the help, and information, that's been given. I on behalf of my friend want to thanks everyone, for the help given. I'll be selecting a best answer shortly here.

Update 3:

I'll still be watching this question for a while longer, for any added recipes, if someone wants to add something.

    1 cup unrefined sunflower oil (220 g)

    ½ cup unsweetened soy/almond milk (120 g)

    2 tsp apple cider vinegar

    Sea salt to taste

Combine ingredients and blend. It tastes best the day after making it.

This recipe is good, however, I find that vegan mayo never really tastes like the real thing...

I usually opt for this tahini sauce in place of mayo. It's so easy to make, and you don't even need a blender. You can just mix it together with a spoon. It's also pretty healthy. I've never actually measured out the ingredients (you can just add however much based on your taste), but here is a rough guide of a recipe for a small batch:

    1/4 cup tahini

    1 "squirt" of lemon juice

1 "squirt" of low sodium soy sauce (I use Bragg)

Thin to desired consistency with water or milk (I use almond milk)

Season with garlic powder, onion powder, pepper to taste

Sometimes I add a little bit of cumin and/or turmeric powder, but this is optional

I use this on sandwiches, burgers, salads, as dipping sauce for fries and vegetables, and in quinoa/rice bowls. I could probably eat it with almost anything.

I have made it several times with tofu and the same ingreients less the eggs and it has worked fine, I am a former professional chef so I made plenty of real amyo in my20+ yr career in kitchens, I also found if you want a creamier one adding a bit of coconut milk is fine, I use a hand blender, add all the ingredients including the silken tofu in a my vessel, add the oil alast, start the blender and slower raise it up and the mix comes together, I like a real tangy one so I use vinegar and lemon juice along with dry mustard powder.

I have seen it made by cooking the sugar, salt, vinegar and spices, then thickening that with arrowroot or tapioca starch, cooling that completely, then adding that to the tofu, oil and a bit more vinegar to a blender and buzzing, it works to.

One thing for the price of one jar of Veganaise, you can make 1 qt of homemade vegan mayo.

  • My vegan friend says it's great

    Ingredients

    4 oz soft silken tofu

    2 tsp fresh lemon juice

    2 tsp Dijon mustard

    1 cup vegetable oil

    Kosher salt

    Cooking directions

Combine tofu, lemon juice and mustard in a blender or with a wand blender for about 30 seconds or until the tofu is smooth.

While blending, slowly add in the oil until emulsified and the mixture thickens. Add the salt and blend.

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Not a recipe but a product: Veganaise. You can find or in the refrigerator section of your local health food store.

I am not even a mayonnaise fan and I love that stuff. Just did a fab pasta salad with it for a party last weekend.

I also use Veganaise. and there is another product, Trader Joe's eggless dairy free reduced fat mayonnaise that works pretty good and is cheaper.

Wildwood makes a vegan aioli and in several different flavors that I like a lot too.
