Social faux pas? My friends husband's passed away a few weeks ago and I'm trying to decide if shipping the memorial service is a huge no no?
My main concern is that it will be packed and I have a 5 month old and we live in the most flu affected area of the US right now. I want her to know I care deeply but yum worried about expressing my baby (and young daughter) and I want to skip it!

Just tell her you would not be able to
Attend due to your children unless you can get a babysitter

PROOF your questions before you post:
You are worried about SKIPPING (not shipping) the memorial service. Also, it should be "I'M worried about EXPOSING" (not yum worried about expressing).
So, you live in a flue affected area of the US and that's why you want to skip supporting your friend in her time of loss and grief. Leave the kids at home, and support your friend. Sounds like you are making a lame excuse. How would you like the people you care about to skip out on supporting you in a time of need, because there was a small chance they might be exposed to the flu (when they also might be exposed to the flu any other place they go)?

Anyone I considered a friend, you couldn't pay me enough to skip their spouse's funeral. And with a five month old, I'd just get a sitter.

Unless you are planning to pass the baby around and let people cough directly into her face, I can't think how your baby would get ill.
Attend.
Get a sitter if you are worried about your baby and older daughter being restless.

There would have to be something a lot worse than the flu going around for me to even consider skipping something like that.
