recently acquired a Dell Latitude D520 computer without a power supply. Is this the socket for it?
Need a computer that runs XP as some specialised software I need wont run on anything more recent. Bought an old Dell Latitude D520 but it came without a power supply. It doesn't appear to have a conventional power input. There are 3 sockets as candidates - which is the correct one (& what are the others for?)
The most likely looking one has 5 female connections & is about 6mm in diameter

Not to sound rude, but without a picture, it is impossible to tell just by your description.
Instead of just guessing and assuming, look at the user's guide from here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product...
On page 5, you'll find the section "Back view". Look for #7: AC Adapter connector.

Hi. Just look on this link & find one that lists the right model laptop, & tells You the Dell part name also ... PA## usually.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=power+supply+latitude+d...
Looks like You can get one for as low as about $12.50(US).
G'Luck!!!

Your best bet would be to get a universal power supply that comes with a bunch of different connectors. Being a Dell laptop, it might not allow the battery to charge without the original power supply but it will still turn on and work.

My confusion arises because it's in the right place according to the manual but is described as an AC input & looks to have 5 pins. Attaching a photo.

If you are talking about a power adapter you need a 19.5V output one. This is a standard Jack plug, all conventional and obtainable on Ebay.
