If you defund the police in a city like Minneapolis will there be any businesses or middle-class people that will remain?

Get you a gun and learn to shoot it!! They won’t *** wit you 

County law enforcement will have to take over the slack. But yes, Minneapolis has already lost some businesses that were burned and looted and have said they won't rebuild within the city limits. 

Minneapolis didn't vote to defund the police. The city council voted to DISBAND the police department. There is a difference.

Most people aren't, as far as I'm aware, suggesting entirely doing away with the concept of police officers.  What they are suggesting is shifting our resources away from catching criminals, and towards preventing crime in the first place.  Instead of catching robbers, make sure no one is so destitute that they need to rob.  Instead of chasing down drug dealers, get treatment for drug addicts so that the dealers don't have any customers.  Instead of arresting homeless people, give them homes.  And so on.

We would likely need at least some police, still, because some people are just, well, bad people, but we'd need a *lot* fewer of them, and there would be a lot less harm being caused all around.

It'll be a great place for conservatives. I wouldn't mind moving my business there.

Smaller government with the responsibility of personal protection given back to the people where it belongs?

Yes please.

I would be afraid also, just like you, if I thought all the police were going to disappear.  But if you did some research you'd know that's not the theory.   In one sense, the movement to defund the police is quite simple: It means taking funding away from police forces across the country. In many cases, a city's or county's legislators allocate money in yearly budgets to fund police departments. Defunding the police is just that literal.

The larger push to defund the police is about more than taking money away. It's a push to reallocate those funds into social programs.

"It’s not just about taking away money from the police, it’s about reinvesting those dollars into black communities. Communities that have been deeply divested from, communities that, some have never felt the impact of having true resources. And so we have to reconsider what we’re resourcing. I've been saying we have an economy of punishment over an economy of care," Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, told WBUR.

the mayor and the city council should be the first ones to get murdered by the criminals.
