To help restore your gut flora (the 'good' bacteria) to optimize digestion. My doctors recommended I take it for a while after I got radiation treatment last year. It's also supposed to help after taking anti-biotics, especially if you get yeast infections.

They are used to counteract dangerous bacteria in the stomach. They are known as the good bacteria. Take care not to over use because they are known to have dangerous affects. Do not use supplements while you are using natural probiotic foods. The affect is overwhelming to your system and causes fungus. These fungi are resistant forms that are very difficult to treat.

Probiotics are living microorganisms that help us to prevent and treat some illnesses. They are also called as friendly or healthy bacteria. It help us in providing a healthy immune system. Probiotics bacteria also promotes oral health by producing hydrogen peroxide and other antimicrobial substances that inhibit the growth of pathogens. Probiotics are live microorganisms promoted with claims that they provide health benefits when consumed, generally by improving or restoring the gut flora. Probiotics are considered generally safe to consume, but may cause bacteria-host interactions and unwanted side effects in rare cases.

In most cases, they're for draining cash from gullible people. Probiotics are essentially a health fad and the claims are largely hype. If someone maintains a healthy diet, they don't need probiotics.

Supposedly it’s supposed to improve your gut health. Your stomach has a bunch of bacteria that works to break down food into nutrients. If some of them die then your gut isn’t optimized. Probiotics is supposed to restore those dead bacteria.
There’s no scientific proof that probiotics does that.
