What GPS apps are available that navigate you away from downtowns, major intersections, and congestion in general? I prefer the longer way.?

Google Maps and Waze (even avoiding highways) takes me through some bad towns transitioning from suburban roads with bad intersections containing cars from interstate junctions, back to suburban roads... I rather stay on quiet roads where there are (little-to-)no known cases of tailgaters, traffic, emergency vehicles, multi-lane intersections etc. I'd prefer the longer and safer way out.

It's unlikely that there is such an app available.

It would defeat the purpose of the GPS system = getting you from point A to point B in the most streamlined fashion.

If you don't want this, map your own route.

Good luck with that. GM and Waze provide alternate routes that are longer.  Try that.

REAL stand alone GPS units do a better job and you can customize your route preferences.

I have tested my Garmin against google maps and Waze and While the Google and Waze apps would constantly want you to take exits to shady parts of the city, the garmin would never make that mistake.
