  • What is the resistance of the device (how many ohms)?

Rearrange the equation current = voltage/resistance to express resistance in terms of current and voltage. Then solve the following: A certain device in a 120-V circuit has a current rating of 30 A .

  • How many amperes flow through a 58-W bulb connected in a 120-V circuit?

The wattage marked on a lightbulb is not an inherent property of the bulb, but depends on the voltage to which it is connected, usually 110 or 120 V.

  • How to find the circumference of a race car tyre?

One last question for Y/A from me.

I'm trying to learn how to calculate race car speeds from vehicle specifications.

Vehicle speed = wheel speed x wheel circumference.

     πD = Wheel circumference

Unlike standard road car tyres, race car tyres provide an overall diameter instead of an aspect ratio.

    Front tyre size: 305/605/18 (mm/mm/in) (Tread width/Overall diameter/Rim diameter)

    Rear tyre size: 335/710/18 (mm/mm/in)  (Tread width/Overall diameter/Rim diameter)

Is it just as simple as 'π x overall diameter' to find the circumference here?

TIA, and good luck in the future all!

  • Does it make more sense to have a commercial under counter ware washer (Dishwasher) for home use rather than standard residential type?

Been using dishwasher for years. Due to large load need to replace machines every five or so years. As annual load is 850-875 cycles (twin rack machine) on commercial side it will convert to daily 12/15 racks at end of day. With 1.5kw/hr of residential machine doing 5 hrs a day a quick runs of commercial (3 mins per rack for 15 racks 45mins with 3.5 kw/hr) may be actually cheaper with longer life span.

  • Who is it that perfected the hydraulic system?

There was the man that invented and nearly perfected (to modern day times) the hydraulic press. I'm thinking that this guy was in the 1880s, does anyone know who he is?

  • How to calculate the total drive ratio of gears?

Trying to understand how to calculate total drive ratio for gears from the given values.

    For example:

    1st gear; 4.26

    2nd gear; 3.1

    3rd gear; 2.2

    4th gear; 1.7

    5th gear; 1.1

    6th gear; 1.0

    Final drive; 3.5

  • Basic Power Electronics Question?

Given two dc sources, drawn as battery symbols in series, one being a 160V/220A EV battery, the other a 160V HV DC current limited power supply, with a load (INVERTER) drawn as a 1.6 ohm/80kW resistor across the two sources in series , is there any reason this wouldn’t work, given that the power supply , by itself can power a 360V/220A/80kW load by itself, without the battery ? The question is whether the two sources are incompatible and therefore not able to work in series or whether it makes no difference as long as both sources can handle the 220A current ? Is there anything that would prevent you from connecting these two very different dc sources in series ? For that matter, does it even make any difference what the voltages of the two sources are as long as they total 360V ? Is there any reason the current limiting wouldn’t work in this configuration ? (given that in order to source more current , the battery pack has to have a path to ground that allows more current and the power supply current limiting should prevent that) Not that it matters, the inverter’s load is a 3-phase EV motor, which it drives just fine with the dc supply by itself. The purpose of the question is to understand WHY this would not work, if that is the case. I believe it has something to do with the difference in the internal resistance of the two sources, which , while both dc sources drawn as equivalent dc sources, are , in actual fact, far from equivalent.

  • Sampling question?

Weight of the LSB, for MAX 1261

1.Assuming you have the MAX 1261 configured for 2.5v full scale (that is, the analog input range is 0-2.5v),what would the effective weight (in volts) of the Least Significant Bit?

    2

Maximum input frequency for MAX 1261

If you have the MAX 1261 configured to use it’s internal clock, the datasheet indicates a conversion time of 3.6microSec. Assuming it takes an additional 625nS for acquisition, reading the data, and re-starting the ADC, what is the maximum effective fsample we can hope to achieve, and what maxium input frequency would we be able to resolve?

  • Please write a subroutine to take in one sample from the ADC?

Fancy ADC Interface Code, Built-in Ports

Please write a subroutine to take in one sample from the ADC, assuming it is wired to the 8051’s built-in ports, as in x1. This subroutine should restore any registers that it messes up. Because the MAX1261 is a fancy multi-channel ADC, there are a few additional tasks to deal with in your subroutine, but you may assume that all relevant initialization etc. have been done for you in the (hypothetical) main routine. The subroutine should do the following tasks: Start the ADC conversion: To start the ADC you must write a configuration byte by setting the appropriate bits on P0 and pulling the ADC’s WR* pin low for at least one 8051 clock cycle. The three LSBs of R0 (which you may assume will be set by the main program before calling your subroutine) should be used to set the 3 LSBs of the config byte to determine which channel is sampled. In addition to setting the three LSBs, please ensure that the remaining 5-bits are configured according to the highlighted modes in Table 1, below. Wait for the INT* pin on the MAX 1261 to be asserted, indicating a sample is ready Read all 12-bits of the sample, storing it in R6 (LSBs) and the 4 least significant bits of R7 (HSBs). To read a sample, pull the RD* pin on the MAX1261 LOW and set the HBEN pin to select whether to read the lower 8-bits (HBEN low) or the 4 most significant bits (HBEN high) via the datalines connected to P0.
