1 Answer2 weeks agohs runner recovering from a muscle strain?
hi everyone, i’m a freshman in high school and after a super successful cross country season... this past december i developed a dull, numbing, ache on the inside of my leg, just below the knee that developed into a shooting pain when i was doing harder workouts. i stopped running for nearly 2 months yet still felt it in my leg. i then went through the lengthy process of being diagnosed, wearing a boot on my leg (which did very little), and going to physical therapy. i regained strength in my leg and the intensity of the ache certainly lessened. by late march, i was confident in myself, especially since i wore therapeutic running tape constantly, blocking the pain. however, track season began a couple weeks ago, and while i feel okay on my runs a few times a week (i’m taking mileage and pace slowly) i’m worried about the long term effects of this. while most of the time i merely feel soreness in my shin, which i suspect from the tape, there’s an occasional ache. in addition, i’ve been worried about my form when running (as i have high arches as well) and while my pace is moderate, i get tired after .3 miles whereas a few months ago i was running 7, feeling a bit tired but great! any advice from experienced runners, athletes, or coaches about how to have my leg feel perfectly normal again or how to progress? it would be very appreciated as i’ve felt stressed about it recently. thank you for reading if you’ve made it this far. xx
2 weeks agoWhy do people map their run and post it on social media?
Isn’t that a call for kidnapping? Why do people run 1 or 2 miles daily and post it online showing where they run and it also shows the cross streets. Isn’t that dangerous?
6 Answers3 weeks agoDoes this surprise you?
So alot of people say excercise (specifically cardiovasvular excercises like running or jogging) is helpful for relieving stress.
I find weightlifting/strength training (which is NOT running or jogging or cardiovasuclar fitness) more enjoyable than running or jogging.
It seems like weightlifting or strength training relieves me from stress more than running or jogging (I feel happier and enjoy lifting weights and doing strength training than cardio).
Does this surprise you?

4 Answers3 weeks agoHow much time can I improve in 5 miles? ?
During high school I managed to drop from 32 mins in 5k to 22 mins within 1 season (bare minimum practice). Now I’m in college and it’s 5 miles instead of 3 miles. I want to get around 35 mins in 5 miles with extra practice, do u think that realistically possible?

I started wearing these new Nike Renew running shoes and my knees are so painful after a run I can barely walk let alone stand up. I've been running daily for 10 years and never had these pain. So is it possible the new shoes are causing this?

4 Answers4 weeks agoWhat’s a good 5k time for someone over 250lbs?
I’m 6’6 250lbs and generally do 23 and some change but sometimes in the high 22 range. Also, how does muscle mass affect your 5k time as opposed to having little muscle mass?
