My sister and I signed a lease last month. Now the apt complex says we signed the wrong one.?

The one we signed increased our rent by $150/mo.... and the one they want us to sign now would increase our rent by $275/mo!!! Can they do that? How do we fight it? We couldn't afford the first increase, there's no way we can afford yet another. I'm getting married in 4 months, so it's just a 4 mo lease - my sister is getting a smaller apt then. Is it worth it to fight it for just 4 months of rent?

assuming you have a lease (it has a start date and an end date) signed by both parties, you have no obligation to sign a new lease (that is kinda the point of a lease -- it is meant to protect you as well as them). even if they say the lease isn't valid, if it is signed and you are already occupying the premises, you have rights. if you have concerns, check with the housing authority in your area, they should be able to help you out.

If you and the rental agent all signed it ... they are out of luck.

Just make sure you pay the rent on time, and with a CHECK so you have proof of payment.

If they make eviction threats or even take you ot court, take the lease and the cancelled chack and show the judge that you paid on time, the amount you thought you agreed on.

Well if all parties signed the first form, they're out of luck.

Is there any form of rent control in your area? If there is, they might be violating term of it with hugh increases like that (unless you're living by the beach in LA or downtown Manhattan). =)

I'd say $500 bucks is worth a fight.

Sounds like THEIR problem if they had you sign for the wrong amount. For four months, i'd just continue to pay the rent stated in the least you have and ignore them. They signed it - they have to live with it.

No they can't do that. Go to the government housing commission to report it. Or go to a soliciter to fight it. You need a signed copy of your current lease to fight otherwise your in trouble.
