How do I retrieve a tool dropped in my engine compartment?
We were changing out the spark plugs on our 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 and dropped the extension and tool back by the cylinder 8 spark plug. It didn't drop to the ground. Any suggestions????

They make a telescoping magnet that you can buy at just about any auto parts store. They don't cost very much. I have one and I have to use it nearly every time I work under the hood. They're great for retrieveing dropped tools, nuts, bolts, and washers. Unfortunately they won't pick up anything made of copper, brass, aluminum, or plastic...But that's when I use a long stick with some duct tape on the end...sticky side out, of course.

You could always keep the hood open, pick up the truck and turn it upside down. Shake it a few times and the tool should fall right out.
Or use a telescoping magnetic pick up tool.

a magnetic wand, or mechanical fingers usually do the trick.
