I'm in a dilemma. Help me out?

I've recently learnt that the 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections has been lifted by the US, meaning horses will soon to be slaughtered for consumption. I love animals, so I did some research on that and one thing led to another and i was soon reading on the cruelty behind horse-racings. I was so sad after reading all information. I love animals, really. But again, i am not a vegan. So if i detest horse-racing and against eating horse-meat in additon to many other animal causes, how can i eat meat? I mean i know how the meat industry works and how poorly sanctioned it is, but i like eating meat as i do vegetables. So in a way, i feel like a hypocrite. I stay in singapore so there's no such things like 'cruelty free' meat, at least i don't think i see those kind of meat in supermarkets locally so i can't really say i eat meat of animals humanely treated before their slaughter, although i think my country is quite stringent in enforcing the regulations. What should i do...? Sighs.

I can't go vegetarian and I can't stop eating meat. What should i do?

Its a basic ethical dilemma every vegetarian & vegan before they went to their particular diet faced. ie you are wondering why you can be against one form of cruelty but not another & if this position is flawed (in this case you are against slaughtering horses for meat, but have no problem in allowing the death of animals deemed ''food'' in society such as cow/chicken/pig)

I am curious though how folk can consider themselves animal lovers when they can automatically participate in cruel practices such as animal testing, the wearing of animal skins, the slaughter of 70+billion animals annually for food......or on what grounds they can find it unethical to say wear fur, but neutral to wear leather.

Trust me as somebody who lived the whole lifestyle & would be an unlikely candidate to then be turned off meat (ex huge meat lover) i can tell you you CAN stop eating meat, and that it does get alot easier.

I'm going to give you four sources to do your own research as i don't want to come across judgemental as the stereotype of the V&V movement is

    1) Peter Singers animal liberation, this is basically a 250page bible of the animal rights movement written by one of the most famous & respected ethicists of the past 40 years. Its easy to understand & a fantastic read.

    2) Gary Yourofskys lecture, a 70 minute lecture on youtube by an animal rights activist who discusses the ethical stance of veganism, the rights of animals & the practicality of veganism + dispelling myths

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U00LMmC4

    3) Earthlings, a documentary available on youtube (music by moby, narration by joaquin phoenix) that has been lauded as a must see documentary for everybody + should be seen in schools, it is based on the philosophy of veganism couped with the reality of factory farming + our use of animals in the various areas of life sport, food, testing etc. I will warn you however that it is very graphic & that this is not propoganda, it is of factory farming the main supplier of meat production that puts animals through abuse all of us deem wrong

    4) Gary Franciones online articles, a distinguished law & ethics vegan professor most famous for his induction of the study & basis of animals as property in many law courses now. He is an abolitionist, ie that he is fully against the use of animals in any context & a big critic of how welfare has further perpetuated the myth that it is alright to use animals as property/things on the basis that we treat them alright before death.

Here is an article on & word he coined moral schizophrenia that basically describes your position, you may find it an interesting read, as evident he is against Singers position of welfare

    http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/

Source(s): vegetarian going vegan best of luck & hope i was resourceful or gave you a diving board to do further research pretty sure my email is open from my profile to contact me, dont hesitate if yo ugot further questions the vegetarian/vegan section will also further help & you can find me there

Donating money to animal rescues will not save a single horse from slaughter. Sorry but the horse buyers have a quota. They will buy that quota of horses. Buy from a slaughter auction and the money earned will simply be used to buy more horses for the auction. Sorry but that is just how it works.

If you want to help save a horse from slaughter, then find GOOD horses that are well mannered but untrained (since it takes less time you can save more of these then you can save good horses with bad manners) before they are taken to the auction by making sure they become good ridable mounts. These are the horses that don't see slaughter.

Now as for the other....remember that when you read something like that, you are reading an argument in which someone is trying to persuade you into feeling a certain way about something. Most such sites do not stick to the truth. They also vastly exaggerate and act like the very worst case scenario is the norm when in fact it is the unusual case. Most animals in US plants are slaughtered in as humane a manner as possible.

Think of the Lord girl, plant a picture in your mind, know that you do not need the flesh to be whole. Something is bothering you, and so you are frustrated. Figure out your frustration and ask the Lord to guide you. If you are not getting a message some how of what to do about the frustration then keep being the best Christian you can and read a Christian book on temptation. And find something else to replace the desire to do that which you have spoken about. When you have those urges then you need to find a new good habit that will replace the old one. I sincerely hope this helps you on your road to fulfilling your Novenas. GOD BLESS YOU. AND GOD LOVE YOU

In reality, some living thing has to die so that you can live. that's nature.

fruits and vegetable are living things too, although they ase not as cute or as active as animals.

So the real question is are horses or any other animals to be part of the food chain any special?

The treatment of the animals, that's another thing altogether.

I used to work on farms and I know.

try raising and then sending ur animals to the butcher then you can know that ur piq/cow/chicken has had a good life and that what they were put on this earth for is to feed us, but horses were put on this earth as companions. about rodeo is not cruelty when do right t our rodeos if i saw something i didnt like i would speak up and stop it! that will never go by w/out me noticing! so dont just count on what u hear. but i am glad to see u taking an interest in what you eat! :D
