Japanese-"made from" で vs から? ?

1.この家は木 から/で つくった。

.この 飲み物は むぎ から/で つくった。

when do you use で and から in this context. I remember my teacher saying something about having to use one of them(I forgot which) when you can't tell what the object is made out of from the naked eye.
