  • Overly-sensitive friend?

I have this friend who is getting really sensitive about her surroundings and imagine things that are non-existent.

She is always very worried about her privacy being violated and random people watching her for everything she do and her communication with friends. She gets suspicious that the people she interacts with are not who they really are on the surface and perhaps an imposter. It's really ridiculous. She thinks that some hacker is hacking her computer to view all her emails or taps her phonecalls etc etc. Her imagination is really going crazy and her thoughts and insecurity is totally irrational. Sometimes she even ask me if I am really me as she thinks someone might be imposing as me to get to her secrets.

Does anyone know what are the possible reasons she might be having these insecurities or have any advice on how to help her. I always try to listen to her but I don't know how to get her to think rationally and not overly suspicious. It's really affecting her life. :((

  • 旧正月 and 旧お正月. Which is correct?

    which is correct?

旧正月 is what I have learned from my textbook but I have been corrected by my Japanese peers quite a few times that it is 旧お正月. o.O

And when I used 旧お正月 once during my Japanese class, my sensei corrected me. @.@

Okay, I trust my sensei but may I know if 旧お正月 is becoming more acceptable nowadays especially among younger people or does using 旧お正月 shows your lack of proficiency in the language?

  • My uTorrent isn't working?

Whenever I start uTorrent, it doesn't come up to the screen, nor can I find the icon at the bottom of the startbar. Windows Task manager still reflects that uTorrent is running when I try to open it and the CPU usage jumps up a lot.

This problem happened after I shut down my computer forgetting to exit uTorrent first. I don't know the root of the exact problem though.

Does anyone know how to correct this? I tried deleting all uTorrent files and downloading a new uTorrent again but it does not solve the problem. I'm really bad with computers so I might not exactly provide enough information but please help. If you need any more information just ask and I will try to search for it.

    Thanks in advance

  • Electronic Japanese-English Dictionary?

As I'm going abroad to Japan to study for 1 semester, I'm thinking of getting an electronic japanese-english dictionary. Does anyone know of a good one?

The features that I'm looking for:

    -able to write Kanji

-sufficient words for university level use.(i.e. not too basic)

I heard that you can buy a Nintendo DS and get the 漢字そのままDS楽引辞典 "game", which turns out to be a relatively cheap and functional Japanese dictionary. But I'm worried that the dictionary might not be advance enough. Any comments on this "game" as a dictionary to use for daily life and school? Or should I get a proper electronic dictionary when I go to Japan? Please recommend any suitable models for English speakers learning Japanese (if you know of any). Preferably cheap too haha.

I'll be staying in Kyoto so if anyone knows of good shops nearby to buy denshi-jishos, it would be great if you could share it here too.

    Thanks in advance. :)

  • Japanese-"made from" で vs から? ?

    1.この家は木 から/で つくった。

    2.この 飲み物は むぎ から/で つくった。

when do you use で and から in this context. I remember my teacher saying something about having to use one of them(I forgot which) when you can't tell what the object is made out of from the naked eye.

I had picked up a little Chinese calligraphy from my dad when I was young so I'm curious if the technique for shoudou(Japanese calligraphy) is the same.

    今日は午後見えるはずだった患者さんが、 一人来られなくなりましたから、 三時なら空いていますけど。

Can someone explain to me this sentence? It doesn't make much sense to me >.<

Here's how I interpret it so far...

There was supposed to be a patient whom I'm supposed to see this afternoon, but he couldn't can't alone. So I'm free at 3pm.

Is my interpretation right? Why do they use 見える instead of just 見る? o.O
