旧正月 and 旧お正月. Which is correct?

which is correct?

旧正月 is what I have learned from my textbook but I have been corrected by my Japanese peers quite a few times that it is 旧お正月. o.O

And when I used 旧お正月 once during my Japanese class, my sensei corrected me. @.@

Okay, I trust my sensei but may I know if 旧お正月 is becoming more acceptable nowadays especially among younger people or does using 旧お正月 shows your lack of proficiency in the language?

    Your teacher is right.

Kyuushougatsu is the date for the new year according to the lunar calendar.

Shougatsu is 01/01, simple, straighforward, the name for a date on the calendar.

o-shougatsu is the name of the festivity at the occasion of "shougatsu"

kyuu-o-shougatsu is inappropriate as there is no reason why the honorific should be inserted into an technical term, thus mixing "registers".
