What do I do with my dog?
I have a 3 lb chi/pom mix. We recently got a chi puppy. He just turned 6 mos. Did not realize the female was in heat but as soon as I did we got the male fixed-as in saw that she was in heat, immediately separated them and took him to the vet 2/days later. So I assumed all is well and I will take her to get her fixed as soon as she is no longer in heat. When I picked him up the tech-who definitely knew I was trying to prevent a breeding said nothing to the effect that they could still mate successfully. I am not a breeder and have always spayed and neutered my pets. They have great care and a loving home and vet care until they die. Anyway, woke up the next night to them squealing from being tied up. Now im worried that she could be pregnant and don t know what to do. I don t know what the chances are and don t know what the risk is to her. I also feel terrible about being put in the situation of having to kill any possible puppies. What would you do? Do you think the tech... Knowing the situation and lengths I went to to separate them and get him fixed-should have said something? I am so frustrated.

The technician or the vet one should have definitely told you that your male could breed with a female for at least 2 weeks. She probably is pregnant, but if you are planning to spay her, they can do a pregnant spay. You may not want to kill possible puppies, but depending on the age of your dog it might be dangerous to allow her to have these puppies.

Gosh, guess you've never know any human GUYs who got the the "swimmers fixed" but of course they stayed intact. Their Drs. tell you to be VERY CAREFUL for QUITE some time THEREAFTER when having SEX. You cannot assume he's cleaned OUT, just 'cause the tubes are TIED. You still have to practice SAFE SEX.
In the case of your girl, it should have been NO SEX!!!! She is likely going to be pregnant in what will be a FATAL way, if you do not get a gravid spay. Make the appointment for this week!

Have her spayed now, you wont be killing any puppies. They are not puppies in the early stages, they are a clump of cells too small to be seen.
You havent gone to any great lengths to prevent breeding, a bit of research online would have told you to keep them completely separate until 3 months after he was neutered.

Get her in for a spay asap. 3 lbs. is to small to carry puppies. She's likely pregnant, as sperm can remain in the tubes for up to a month after neutering. Yes, the vet tech or vet should have told you to keep them separated.
