Can/ do people recycle worn out gun barrels?

Whether they are small arms like rifles or large bore guns like ship cannons, when they are worn out from constant use and reach the end of their life, are they melted down or discarded, or somehow serviced so as to be reusable? How would this be done?

There is a process of re lining a barrel mainly for small bore rifles, some cannons are smooth bore and have a longer life. they are basically like a '67 Mustang fast back, you can melt it back down and get something, like a toaster, just like any other toaster.
