Accounts of soldiers using enemy artillery during battle?
I've seen a small number of times in movies where soldiers, upon advancing onto enemy lines, attempt to man artillery pieces such as cannons in an attempt to turn them around and fire on the their former operators.
My normal thought was that this is just dramatic license to make the movie more interesting, but is there really any evidence of this actually occurring, like American Civil War accounts?
1 AnswerMilitary4 years agoHow easy is it to change your car license plate?
I remember long time ago my father and I saw a man assaulting a woman at a parking lot. My father ran to the perp's vehicle to get a look at his license plate to ID to police.
That got me thinking: if that guy wanted to avoid getting arrested by changing license plate number, how easy is it to do so? Does the auto department require keeping a record of who changed their license and so on?
7 AnswersInsurance & Registration5 years agoCan/ do people recycle worn out gun barrels?
Whether they are small arms like rifles or large bore guns like ship cannons, when they are worn out from constant use and reach the end of their life, are they melted down or discarded, or somehow serviced so as to be reusable? How would this be done?
2 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhen do you pronounce Roman numerals as numbers and letters?
There are cases where the Roman numerals indicate words (re the Queen Elizabeth II ("the second"), and cases where they are pronounced as numbers (XXX Corps being "thirty Corps"). But are there circumstances where you pronounce something like XIX as "ex eye ex"?

If you own a smartwatch, do you wear it on the inside (facing the the bottom rather than the typical top of your arm)? Do you find your particular smartwatch (please specify) awkward while wearing it?
3 AnswersFashion & Accessories5 years agoTo all Police officers: Do you find rechargeable batteries unreliable?
I came across a wikipedia article on police equipment (specifically flashlights) that claims that rechargeable batteries for flashights tend to fail. But no sources support this claim or explain why this would be the case over non-rechargeables.
So what are your thoughts on the matter? Got any personal experiences of equipment failing and the common thread involves rechargeable batteries?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police5 years agoIn the movie A Few Good Men, how would Ross arrest Kendrick?
At the end of the movie Cpt Ross (played by Kevin Bacon) states to the main character as he leaves the scene that he has to go arrest another character, who was based in Cuba.
This is of course a fictional movie, but how exactly would this procedure work out in a actual, real life case scenario? Would he have to file an arrest warrant and have it faxed over to Gitmo, and the MPs there take care of it, or would he have to physically fly over there and perform the arrest himself? What are the specific regulations dealing with this type of situation?
2 AnswersMilitary6 years agoHow did sailing ships trail other ships without being spotted?
4 AnswersMilitary6 years agoDo/ Should navies use light metal dishware instead of ceramics?
For anyone knowledgeable in navy affairs:
I notice that ceramics have been and probably still are a predominant form of material used for eating equipment aboard naval vessels, whereas cheaper brass and other metals are mainly used in things like cooking pots and perhaps utensils.
Would having all dishware using cheap and lightweight materials like brass or stainless steel mean not only lighter load for ships to carry when deployed to sea, but also less susceptible to damage from things like shattering plates and cups? I just can't picture ceramic materials being so much better than light metals or even plastics.
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts6 years agoHow did WW2 parachutes operate and how do they compare with modern parachutes?
I am trying to find information on just what differences parachutes used in WW2 (paratroopers, particularly US airborne but others can be applicable), in regards to how steerable/ controllable they were. how reliable, etc. compared to modern parachutes. Has the design and form changed since then? I know the US Army still uses circular parachute types today.

Getting really annoying now: here's a picture showing what I mean:
Normally bolded text is the words you typed in the search bar, but as you can see, the words include completely unrelated things like "myspace", "mobile" and "highlight" how the hell do I stop Yahoo! Search from doing this?
1 AnswerYahoo Search7 years agoWhat is "cutting" of heroine using ether?
First, I am not very familiar with drugs or how it all works.
I rewatched the movie Bad Boys, and the plot involved the bad guys trying to sell stolen heroine (or cocaine?) but they first try to use ether to enhance it- one of the main characters claim it quadruples its value, and hence presumably enhance its quality when consumed.
Was this what they referred to when they state "cut" during dialogue? How does the process work? How does ether make the drug better?
1 AnswerChemistry7 years agoIs there an official German name for the Imperial tricolor that existed until 1918?
Info: In WW2 Germany, soldiers' helmets had two decals for the sides of the helmet; the left side is the Heersadler, or Army Eagle, and the other side is a shield emblem with diagonal tricolour black, white and red, the traditional colours of the German Empire.
Is there a German name for the black-white-red tricolor decal, or the tricolor in general?
1 AnswerOther - Politics & Government7 years agoIn the US army, why do Regular ranks co-exist with wartime/ conscription ranks?
Many figures in US military history had parallel ranks, like Custer with rank of Brigadier but remaining Lieutenant Colonel as a regular rank, why did officers retain separate ranks during wartime? Should an officer that has performed well during a war tour deserve a promotion in his "regular" rank?
5 AnswersMilitary7 years agoDid the Schutzstaffel or SS had domestic workers as depicted in the 2001 film Conspiracy?
In this movie, which depicted the Wannsee conference and thus depicted many characters in SS uniforms, you will see the staff workers (domestic ie waiters and chefs) in many scenes and some of them wore what seemed to be white staff uniforms but with their distinctive black collar tabs just like the SS officers, but both tabs are blank, implying they hold no or lowest rank.
Is this an accurate depiction of an SS-based corps of staff workers that did service and care-taking jobs for the SS in general? Or was this merely taking liberty with artistic license?
3 AnswersHistory7 years agoWhat's the difference between Kaspery AV 6.0 and newer versions?
Some time ago I bought an older Kaspersky AV software and didn't end up using it until now, but I realize it is 6.0, which is like 2006! Is it any use now? What about if I got a version that was only out last year, what difference does it make if it was 2014 edition? Does Kaspersky or any AV software in general operate on a yearly license programme?
