Depends where in Scotland you are - if you're in a large town or city then you've got different opportunities than what someone who lives in the middle of nowhere has got.

If you're in an urban area, your best bet is to look for trainee positions like a bank teller or a builder's apprentice. Don't look for retail or bar work, or you'll still be stuck there doing the same thing in ten years' time.

In a rural area, I'm guessing you should go with whatever you can get! Sheep shearing, perhaps?! Sorry, I'm not meaning to be rude, but actually I have relatives in Aberdeenshire and all the farmers that live near them are loaded. They work hard, but they earn lots of money for it. It'd be a good career to go into but obviously requires a large initial outlay.

I think you should look at going to college though. There are limited jobs that you can get at 16 ... but that's all that's going to be open to you at 26, or 36, with no education or qualifications.

The sad truth is, anything you can get. People are hardly gonna be knocking the door down to get to a 16 yr old just out of school.

Just see what's available in your area and apply for absolutely everything. Someone will take you, but it might not be what you want to do.

Alternatively try get an Apprenticeship... I don't know how they work in Scotland though.

I agree with some of the other respondents in that you should try to stay in education. That might not be at School or college, but getting a modern apprenticeship might be the way to go.

You should speak to careers scotland - who are the government agency for careers guidance - to see what your choices are - you are likely to be eligible for a fair amount of support depending on what you choose to do.

    Good luck!

Well, I guess that would depend. A lot of 16 year old boys usually get jobs at fast food restruants, or you could try to get a job at a Wal-Mart. Or something like that.

I would find a local supermarket. At least it's clean regular work, and it's a decent wage for a 16 year old.

    Depends on your interests?

Do you like animals?(Helping out in a cat & dog home?)

Do you like music?( A record shop)

    Do you like kids?(Babysitting?)

    Do you like cleaning?(A Cleaner)

Do you like fixing things?(Train to be a joiner?)

The list is endless, you could go to college part time and have a part time job to earn some money and gain experience.
