Sleepy baby born 9/4/08 12 days old ?

Ok so this is my first child and I just have questions. All he does is sleep all day and part of the night. He will not sleep in his crib nor bassinet, only on the couch. Also he is eating every 2 hours 3oz of milk. Is the normal. Is he took you to have a little cereal in his bottle? He has had his check up at the doctor and is very healthy. Any advise from any moms out there. Thanks

It is normal for a newborn to sleep a lot...don't worry, in a week or two you'll be wondering if he is ever going to sleep again! It is normal for them to eat every couple of hours, their stomachs are not very big. Eventually, as his stomach gets larger, he'll eat more at each feeding and not need a bunch of little ones. No cereal in the bottle EVER...unless your doctor recommends it for reflux. No cereal in any way, shape, or form at this point...your baby is far too young for that, give him another 6 months.

he is very normal. he is a newborn. don't feed him any cereal until he's at least 4 or 5 months old. he doesn't need it. babies sleep alot. and if he only wants the couch then go with it. at this young of an age babies are all about their demands and you following them. not the other way around. I suggest you go and buy the book "what to expect the first year" great book and totally helped me with my first child. I read the whole book before my daughter was even born. Also his stomach is about the size of his fist. so if you think about it 3 oz is just right. and every two hours id perfect, and it will stay that way for a while to come. no worries. he's just a newborn.

Don't give your child cereal and his milk. Not yet, he is too young for that. When your child sleeps a lot, that is fine. Try making him fall asleep and then place him in the crib or bassinet or place him there and play music or read to him. It's pretty normal if they eat every two hours as well. Maybe try going a bit longer then two hours though.

It is normal for newborns to sleep up to 20 hours a day. Each day he will stay awake a little bit longer. He does not need rice cereal in his bottle - this can indrease his risk of having food allergies. Wait until he is close to 6 months before giving anything other then formula. Formula fed babies usually eat every 3-4 hours. So he may not be needing to eat every 2 hours - you could try to push the time back a little bit.

thats what newborns do, sleep. it will be this way until about 3 months old. try swaddling him, if he is snug and comfy he should sleep better anywhere. remember all he has know for 9 months is you, and the tight confines of your uterus. so the sounds and smell of you is going to be more comforting to him than anything else. try wrapping him in a shirt you have worn or something, that might help him sleep in his bassinette. it may be too early for the crib. newborns like smaller closer spaces.

his eating sounds fine, newborns eat 1-4 ounces every 2-4 hrs on average. do not give him cereal though, trust me is doesnt work and it might hurt his tummy, and you could end up with a screaming baby. he is way too young. cereal in the bottle didnt help either one of my boys sleep longer, only a bedrime routine and time helped. good luck.

Sleeping is what newborns do! that is normal. You need to get him in at least the bassinet for sleeping though. Try rocking him until he falls asleep and gently put him in the bassinet. His eating is normal also. no cereal in his bottle, his digestive track isn't developed enough to process it. Don't worry, you'll be fine when you get the hang of it. Congrats!

no cereal in the bottle or at this age because the stomach is not ready yet and can cause some issues wait until your baby is around 3 to 4 months old before starting any solid foods. but yes he is eating fine and the sleeping thing will last until he is around 2 to 3 months old. my son is 10 months and he is now done to two naps a day but just a couple of months ago he would take 5 a day. and he still wakes up to play a couple of times during the night. all three of my kids did not want to sleep in their own beds so i gradually put them in their bed. i would during the day and night but them in their beds until they were around 2 months did they finally get used to it.

First of please do not allow him to sleep on the couch because of SIDS Next thing is why are you giving him cereal he is way to young for that His eating habits sound great Sleeping sounds normal for his age My concern his this sleeping on the couch you need to get him in his bassinet he will get use to it and at this age it should not take long.

new babies sleep all the time because thats when they grow, and right now he is growing the most. its normal for him to be eating every two hours of 3 oz of milk. that is what my son eats all the time (he is 2 months now, and has been drinking about that since we got home from the hospital) i started putting cereal in his bottles at around 1 month but not because he was eating so much but because he has acid reflexes.

babies are allowed to be sleepy, they are still adjusting to life outside you.

Feeding frequently at that age is also normal.. bubs will also feed more frequently when going thru a growth spurt which they seem to do about every 10 days for the first few months.

I wouldn't add any cereal to his milk. he's way too young for that..
