There is a movie made in the 1950's called The Three faces of Eve, I think the female star was Joanne Woodard (not sure) any how she had three personalities. The era took place before much was really known about psychopathology and psychiatry. One dramatic episode was when the star as a 5 year old child was forced to kiss her dead grandfather while he lay in his coffin. Each time she would have a suppressed emotion concerning this she escape to another personality in what is known as a Dissociative Personality Disorder in our modern terminology which was in fact a defense mechanism. You may be fortunate enough to find this book on Yahoo websites, dial in the title.

Lost Highway - depending on how you see it, it can be a movie about schizophrenia

The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick - this is a really interesting German film about a man with I think dissociative personality disorder. The book is even better, though

Requiem - another German film about a young woman with epilepsy though this is a neurological disorder

White noise - a really really good German film about schizophrenia (a young man starts hearing voices)
