  • What should I do?

If you are in the mid-40's and hold a degree but it is extremely difficult to get an admin job. Lots of people would say, this is unbelievable but it is true. It has been found that some employers ask- have you done travel arrangement, SAP system, Powerpoint etc. If you have not done any of these in your previous jobs, no one is willing to offer you the job. Even temp jobs all require relevant skills too so it is difficult to get a temp job too even you want to try something new or gain new skills.

Should I just settle for the fast food restaurants- flipping burgers, retail assistant, cashier, road sweeper? I guess these places won't want me either.

What to do? I am so frustrated.

  • What to say when you are asked - what is your greatest challenge?

Well, I don't have any "greatest challenge". When I think about all my working experience, I haven't come across any. So what do I say in the interview?

  • Looking for office admin work but rejected ,?

Interested in office admin work but I keep getting rejections. "We are looking for someone with a wider scope of experience/ more relevant experience". I have done support roles for at least 9 years but office admin for 2 years( in charge of a small company- 2 staff). Now, I am looking for wider job scope in a bigger company but to no avail. How to I get this type of experience if everyone is rejecting me and not giving me the opportunity to prove I can do the work?

  • SOS! Computer problems?

My computer is running very slow- Slow to open new website pages. Hangs every few minutes. I get pop-up blockers on almost everything I open. Some have certificate problems. I have read somewhere that you click the red bar- certificate & click install certificate but I don't have that option.

I have tried installing AVG virus scan - It took 1.5hrs to scan 52% of the computer. I thought that was way too slow so I cancellled the virus scan. The e-mail sometimes cannot be opened either.

What to do? SOS! Even I as I type this short message, it still hangs. Yes, I know the computer is "really sick". Please give me advice on what to do.

    Thanks.

  • How to convince the employer that I am the one for the job?

Applied for this job - Administration Officer - (for a Recruitment firm) Job duties:

Our Singapore team is experiencing an exciting expansion plan and requires a professional with the ability and hunger to cover the following tasks

    Coordinating reports

    Monitoring key performance indicators

    Assisting with financial projects

    General administration duties

Internal recruitment /involvement in business expansion

    Handling PR projects/ social activities

    Requirements -

Hands on and able to hit deadlines

Proactive individual who gets things done

Enjoys being creative and suggesting new ideas to improve business processes

Energetic and "can do" approach to work

I went for the interview and after a few days, I wrote to them to follow up and was told - "we have decided not to take things further with you for this position". Then I went to take a look at their website and noted this - the same position (same job description) but title different - OFFICE MANAGER/PR MARKETING MANAGER

What can I do/write to make them reconsider me for this job?

Their expansion plans fit in very well for me. The manager said that later I could move in HR/PR/Acounts etc. I told him that I had an interest in recruitment but the only area that I could not do was PR. However, I clarified what type of PR work (no need to speak to Media) was required, I told him that it would be no problem.

Age group that I would be working with - younger than me. I said no problem.

What to do? I really interested in working for them and growing with this company. Any suggestions? Can I ask him to re-consider? What should I write?

  • How do you handle the salary expectation question in an interview?

The company does not indicate how much they are offering. Often, the application form asks for the your employment history - why you left, pay. I don't like to put the reason or the pay. The less they know the better. For my case, the pay got lower and lower - why - I didn't work for awhile and I had very bad luck at landing a job. Just no luck at all! I started in the finance industry, was retrenched because they closed. A year later, the no. of banks and finance companies were reduced. I did try but had no luck at landing a bank job because they kept saying you only worked in a finance company. Then, I got fed up and tried to apply for admin jobs on and off for 4 years. Then finally, an educational institute hired me but said they were non-profit and paid way below market price. If I were to put this on the application form, this is not indicative of what I actually worth. I can leave it totally. Lots of people ask and I put the amount a bit higher -do you do this too? If your previous job paid too little, would you inflate the amount too?

Anyway, back to my question above. Can you say- based on the market and working experience, I expect xx to yy ? (based on a job that you have say some relevant working experience). What would you say if you don't have relevant working experience for the job - office admin (your experience - other types of admin exp) ? What type of salary range would you put?

  • Advice for cover letter?

I want to apply for this job - Senior Mortgage Officer (disbursement). I have 9 years experience doing this type of work am well-qualified for the job. The only thing is that I have not worked in this area for the last 10 years because of various reasons. How do I write a convincing letter to the employer to let them know that I am passionate about this type of work and that I will be able to cope with the work even though regulations have changed over the years and the fast paced working environment? I have tried to apply to this finance company before, but did not get an interview. I really want to get back to the finance industry and I really enjoyed this type of work in the past as it gave me great satisfaction and a sense of achievement. Please give me some advice. Kindly don't refer me to websites for cover letters. I have already looked at those- not much help.
