  • Wanting to transfer VHS to DVD?

I transferred one VHS tape to DVD using a MyGica Capit adapter, but it is a real pain. I think I need to buy a VHS/DVD unit with dubbing capabilities. I know these have been out for a long time, but I don't know which of the new units would be the best to buy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Obviously I would like to buy a unit that is not so expensive. As an alternative, since I have a VHS player, I could just buy a DVD recorder and connect the two. Would this work and what DVD recorder would you suggest?

  • Vote on questions in voting?

Rant on. Let me prompt people who come here for questions or submit answers to go to the Questions in Voting tab and clear out some of the backlog. I just got points for an answer of mine from TWO YEARS AGO. Rant off.

  • Why don't you acknowledge someone answering your question. Be polite.?

If someone goes to the trouble to answer your question, pay them the courtesy to acknowledge that and choose a best answer or at least "no best answer" if that is your choice. It is really bad manners not to at least say "Thank You" to someone who has spent some time trying to help you.

Now I feel much better after my rant.

  • Red light violation in CA?

I received a mailed traffic violation in CA for running a red light. There are pictures and an on-line video showing that I was at the first crosswalk line at 0.42 seconds after the light changed red and I continued on through the intersection. Does anyone know if there is a chance of me beating this ticket, or should I just plead guilty and ask for traffic school.

  • Audacity vs. Audiograbber vs. ?

I have a lot of vinyl I would like to digitize. I have used Audiograbber, but recently heard about Audacity. Which would be better. In Audiograbber, any sort of filter requires buying a program from another vendor. Does Audacity have any bells and whistles to do things like this?

  • Car wreck - insurance company wants to low-ball me?

My van (1990 Plymouth Voyager) was hit by a little old lady in a parking lot. The repairs are $2500 and the insurance company wants to give me $800 dollars because they say a comparable van in Idaho is advertised in Craig's list for that. Since I live in California, that is not an option, and I see vans around here for $1500 which they don't want to pay. Should I take the little old lady to small claims court, or what?

  • Compare Compaq Presario C71NR and Gateway ML6720?

I bought a Compaq Presario C71NR for one of my daughters but couldn't buy another for my other daughter because of sale restrictions. Now I see a Gateway ML6720 for cheap. Both machines have an Intel T2310 processor, 15.4 in WXGA screen. a 120 GB hard drive and Vista Home Premium. They look like the same computer. Does anyone have any input on this?

  • Burning - Win Media Player, Rhapsody, RealPlayer?

I just got a new computer and was wondering what would be preferable for making a music library and burning disks. I used RealPlayer previousloy and liked it although the free version wouldn't let me burn MP3's. The new computer has Windows Media Player and some junkware to lead to RealPlayer and Rhapsody. Which is best or should I buy some program that is better?

  • Smell.....what smell?

For all you chem geeks out there, what is your favorite smelling chemical and your least favorite. I think that chloroform smells like flowers and sunshine and all good things, while pyridine smells like evil incarnate.

  • Insurance company assigned fault to me for an accident in which I was hit?

In the state of California I was driving on the 118 freeway when the car in front of me stopped abruptly. When I braked, my car slid to the left into the next lane of traffic. The driver there hit my car, sending it back into the lane. I immediately pulled over and waited to see the other driver stop. They never did. When I turned this in to my insurance company, they paid for the damage to my car (minus $250 of course) but said they would charge the accident off as my fault. This will cause my rates to go up so I really don't want them to do that. The agent said that since I did not retain control of my car and entered someone else's space, I am at fault. Do I have any chance of fighting this? Could I appeal this to the state Insurance Comissioner? anyone had any similar problems?

    Thanks
