  • Can someone explain the statutory immigrant preference system in the US?

Please, I am not looking for a heated political debate here, I'm looking for information on what the law currently is, not what it should be.

As I understand it, each country is allotted so many immigration spots and some must wait much longer than others if they are from a country where many people want to emigrate. How does this system regulate which types of immigrants are successfully admitted to permanent residence on an immigrant visa?

  • Could someone proofread this paragraph for me in Spanish?

“Entremés de El retablo de las maravillas” es una obra del siglo de oro. Esta obra fue publicada en 1615 por Miguel de Cervantes. Los entremeses son obras de teatro cortas que son representados entre dos actos de una obra de teatro principal. Ellos fueron importantes durante el siglo de oro porque frecuentemente el público no se comportaba bien entre los actos. Como resultado, los entremeses tenían mucha acción. Esta obra presenta los temas de hipocresía de la sociedad y que un individuo hacerá para mantener un imagen público.

  • What would you call a college degree that included Russian, Spanish, Math, and Economics?

I am putting together a proposal for an integrative studies degree and the first question is what would you call your degree? I will have 4 minors in total to compose the degree-- Russian, Spanish, Math, and Economics. I plan on eventually being a corporate attorney specializing in either taxation or immigration issues. Does anyone have any creative yet clean suggestions for a "title" for the degree?

  • Help me pick out a tattoo?

Ok, so the backstory... as there always is one. We fell in love 14 years ago. Life happens, so we were apart a lot of those years. There was never anyone else for me who could come close to what we had and it seems mutual. He has several tattoos, I have none. At 31, I might be a little old getting my first one, but I do want it to be meaningful. I get that names/initials might be bad because while I KNOW that love will last forever, I cannot be certain that there will never arise another one of those 'life' issues that makes us take separate paths. I would like to think that we will be together forever, but just in case, I want names out of it.

Also advice on placement. I am a professional, so can't be somewhere that is visible in professional attire (to include skirts) and I am a larger gal.

If you can send me links to an image all the better.

I would love something that would be symbolic of the fact that love endures and that perfection is not required...

    Thanks

  • Would this be false imprisonment under tort law in Michigan?

If a company (or a particular branch of a business) has a regular habit of having the nighttime manager lock the doors at closing time then require employees to wait to be let out, could it be construed as false imprisonment under tort law? I am not talking 5 minutes or even 10, but sometimes between 15 and 30 minutes? I don't want to sue, just have enough to back me when I say HEY my feet are tired, you aren't paying me anymore because you made me punch out and I want to go home. The doors are locked and alarms set. There are fire exits, however to use one would trigger an alarm and would likely result in disciplinary action for compromising security. This is a retail store.

My feelings are that the manager knows when people are scheduled to get off based on the schedule and SHOULD be at the door within 5 minutes of that time to let people out. Any thoughts?

  • What are the benefits of participating in the Webkinz Kinzville Academy, other than just collecting pins?

I have been doing them and they are fun enough, but was wondering if collecting enough pins gives you access to different things or anything other than to say hey I am level 1 or 2 or whatever.

  • How many things can you have in your webkinz dock?

How many things can you have in your dock? Are there limits? If so how do you find out? Is there anything really cool that you'd like to share about webkinz? I've been playing a little over a month and feel like there is a lot to learn.

  • Why do Webkinz need a refrigerator?

I see that there are recipes for cooking, but why do you need a refrigerator? Is it just for looks? I see it can hold up to 8 items, but why would you need to do that if you can keep them at the bottom...

    thanks

  • Has anyone ever been prescribed Singulair for pneumonia the first time they were diagnosed?

I am really concerned because my five year old daughter was diagnosed with bronchitus about a month ago, perhaps a little more. She took all of her medicine and it did not go away. Took her back in and she was diagnosed with pneumonia via a chest x-ray. Well the doctor prescribed her 5 months worth of Singulair. I noticed the four refills and did a bit of research. It says that it is primarily an allergy and asthma medication. I can see the link between asthma and pneumonia, but I am a more than a little troubled that he did not give her anything else to treat her pneumonia. Five months on any medication seems too long to me unless you can show a chronic condition. My daughter rarely has a cold and certainly has never exhibited breathing difficulties or allergies before. Am I worrying too much? I am going to get a second opinion anyways, but I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.

I read through the pamphlet for Singulair from the website. She was prescribed the proper dosage for her age. I also realize that if it is viral pneumonia, they can't do anything else but wait... and if it is bacterial they can. Does anybody know how doctors can distinguish between the two? For example, with strep throat (and this did start with strep throat btw) they do a throat culture and can tell if it is bacterial or viral.

    Thanks in advance.

  • What does it mean by operations are "well-defined"?

Let ~ be a relation on N x N defined by (a,b) ~ (c, d) if A+d=B+c show that ~ is an equivalent relation on NXN Define addition on the equivalent classes as:

    [(a+b)]+[(c,d)]=[(a+c, b+d)]

Prove that the operation is well-defined.

I get that equivalence relations must be reflexive, symmetric and transitive. Is showing this to be true for both the initial and final parts sufficient to show that something is 'well-defined'? Or do I need more?

    Thanks

  • Determine whether a function is one-to-one and/or onto?

Specifically, what needs to be shown for a function to be one-to-one and what makes it 'onto'?

    example: f(x)= x/ [(x+2)(x-2)]

and f: (-2,2)=>R (all real numbers)

The hint is let u be in R and find an x that is an element of (-2,2) such that f(x)=u

    Thanks for any advice.

  • Used Cars under $10,000?

So, I'm going to be shopping for a good used car that will last me 3-4 years (or more) around Jan/Feb timeframe. So my question is, is there a vehicle that you have that you love? Why? One that you hate? Why? I'm looking for something reliable, but also sporty and comfortable for two school age children. And I have the budget constraint. I feel 10k gives me some flexibility, however it rules out certain options. Thanks.

  • Bar Admission Michigan Character and Fitness Review?

This is going to probably sound strange, but I was wondering is there anything that I could legally do work wise that might interfere with my admission to the bar? I plan on going to law school, but while in college, I am considering working as a stripper. I've also thought about appearing in soft porn (no intercourse)...

I know I have to make sure that the opportunity is legitimate. My thoughts are that if it is not against the law to work in a certain capacity, it should be fine on the character and fitness review so long as I report it. I'm wondering if I am letting my parents' morals affect how I perceive my potential jobs might be seen. I really want to be a lawyer, so if this would stop me, I won't do it, but the extra money sure would be nice right now.

I did check the Michigan bar association website and it simply says that one must possess good moral character. What exactly does that mean? I am honest and law-abiding, and other than a couple impeding traffic tickets (one from a minor fender bender I had, the other when I lost track of my speed) I have never had any interactions with the law.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this in a respectful manner.

  • Are you a single issue voter?

If so, what is the issue that makes or breaks your choice? By the same token, do you always vote straight party lines (all democrat or all republican)? Why is this so important to you?

Please keep the responses civil. I tend to vote both ways and vote my conscience as well. I'm curious how others think. And if you've always voted for a single party, is there anything that would change your mind (either rep or dem).?

  • Why is the south generally republican?

I know that some would feel that the south is going Republican because of Obama's racial heritage, and that probably does play a part in it, along with other factors, however traditionally, the south has gone Republican. Why is that?

Please, take the time to answer this with thought I am really curious about this trend.
